I'm so happy to share that I'm expecting a baby boy (my first)... due in April! I actually shared the news on Instagram on New Years Day and was blown away by all the love and kind messages I received. It's truly been such a special time. Hubby and I, along with my 7-year old stepson, Kane and our extended families have been over the moon and so grateful for this blessing. I'm currently 26 weeks (these photos were taken at 24 weeks) and it's hard to believe we're now just 13 weeks away! Yes I'm definitely frantic now, but doing my best not to stress... all will get done, and if not, it'll be ok... right? Either way, I'm just so excited!
Before I get into the details of my outfit (because you guys do need to check out this dress -- it's non-maternity and the most comfortable thing ever!), I did want to share one of the special moments from my pregnancy so far. There have been many, from hearing the baby's heartbeat for the first time, seeing the baby kicking and yawning during our 20-week sonogram to our gender reveal party for our family and close friends. But the one I wanted to share was the day we told Kane that he was going to be a big brother. Hubs and I brainstormed some ideas, but in the end, we kept it simple. We ordered a "big brother" book for him and then picked him a gift from the baby... something he's been asking for: a sketchbook so he could start drawing and a drawing mannequin. That morning, I wrapped up the gift and wrote this message on top: "To Big Brother, From Your Little Brother or Sister." The book that we ordered actually hadn't arrived yet, but we couldn't wait to tell him, so we went ahead and told him the news.
"We have a gift for you!, we told Kane. Of course, he was already excited and we sat him down in our living room. He started to open the gift, and we jumped: "Wait, read the card first!" He read the card out loud and looked up all confused: "Huh? I don't have a little brother or sister!" and proceeded to open the gift. "But wait, are you suuure? What about in Gen's belly?", hubby exclaimed, pointing to my stomach. I continued "Yeah, you're going to have a little brother or sister!" Immediately, Kane's eyes opened up wide and he was giddy with excitement and started jumping up and down. It was similar to how excited kids get when they're opening gifts at Christmas-- they can't contain themselves! With the news, Kane shared, "I'm going to be a big brother?! I'm gonna have a little brother or sister?! This is my number one wish!" to which our hearts immediately melted. It was so special to see how happy and thrilled he was. We explained to him when baby was set to arrive, how we needed to pray for the baby each day and how in a couple of weeks we would find out whether baby was a boy and girl. He was excited either way, but was totally rooting for a boy (hubby was too). "I hope baby likes dinosaurs and sharks!", Kane shared. He couldn't stop talked about the news and wanted to tell the world. He even made up a song that he was singing throughout the house that day. The rest of the weekend, we just celebrated all together and bonded over the news... it was so special!
Now for this #OOTD: After reading the reviews on this Lush dress, I ordered it online in the olive color you see here and a navy paisley print, which I wore for Christmas Eve. I love myself a shift dress, so I had a feeling I was going to love this and my hunch was right. The material is light and breathable, which I like because you can really wear this all year round. I can see it in the fall or summer with wedges or chunky heels. It's definitely been a go-to outfit for me these days because it's just so comfy and easy. The dress does run big, so order a size down. I would have been ok with the XS, but went with the small to give myself room for when I got bigger. The dress is currently on sale and a steal for just $30!
The other part of my outfit I wanted to point out are my boots... also super comfortable and also got great reviews! I first got them in gray and loved them so much that I scooped up these black ones right away. The elastic insert on both sides of the boots gives a lot of room (but without making the boots sag or loose), which is especially great for me and my growing, pregnancy calves. The boots also come in a wide calf version, but I was ok with the regular. I have to say Target has been on point this season, from their selection to their sales-- I can't stop shopping there! I actually scored these boots for $20! Right now you can get them for $27-- still a bargain!
